Embracing Sensitivity – Living As a Highly Sensitive Person

Have you ever felt the world was too loud, too bright, or too much for you to handle? It may be that you are a highly sensitive person treatment or Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). Honestly, it’s not something bad at all. It is like having another antenna which picks up other people’s signals for them.
How can we benefit from this sensitivity?
Picture yourself at a party. People chatter, music blasts, lights flash. For most it’s thrilling. But for you? You feel like you are in the eye of a hurricane without an umbrella. HSPs pick up stimuli with so much intensity that others may not even be conscious that they are around them at all.
How to deal with it? First of all, know yourself! The first step is to recognize that you are sensitive. After you realize it, management becomes simpler. As if you just learned that you are allergic to peanuts. Now you know not to eat them.
The term “Self-care” is so over-used nowadays that it has largely lost its meaning. But for HSPs, this is crucial. Imagine your energy as a battery. When it has been drained by too much stimulation, recharging is needed. You could retreat into solitude, and read a book. Or go out for a walk in nature where only the birds are calling – not machinery.
Haven’t you ever noticed that a nature walk is extremely relaxing? The fresh air and the trees will soothe ragged nerves. Even houseplants will work wonders when the woods aren’t available; you can talk to them and they won’t take offense.
Star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet have nothing on a Highly Sensitive Person. Relationships can be the rockiest terrain of all for HSPs. Everything hits harder in the heart when you are highly sensitive Feel it all deeply, and this gives HSPs the ability to feel more deeply.
When you ‘re ever told that you ‘re “too sensitive” in an argument What does it mean? It feels like hot needles are sticking into your skin.
Hence So speak up Nevertheless, it can only help to keep people informed when their words cause pain well beyond what was intended.
One additional thought: The best insurance policy for your peace and tranquility comes in the form of boundaries. Think that they are invisible fences guarding a corn field from wild dogs. Boundaries can protect a sensitive person ‘s peace and tranquility.
Do you want peace and tranquility when all around is chaos? No need to twist yourself into a pretzel or chant ancient mantras (though such practices may be your cup of tea). How does one find stillness in the midst of chaos?
Concentrating on your breath for a few minutes can make black waters brighter.
The last thing we need is a sense of humor. Even medical studies suggest that a daily dose of laughter will recharge you more quickly than anything else on the market! So take your comedies, cakes and jokes when life becomes too demanding.
Valuable help may be at hand. Counsellors who specialize in sensitive issues often see things that friends with the best of motives may not notice. After all, let’s put it out on the table–they aren’t wearing our skin every single day!
Last, and perhaps best of all remember there is nothing wrong with being sensitive to the unusual or observing subtleties that others overlook completely – this makes life richer but can make it more difficult at times; yet then does spice-tarragon, curry leaves and pepper baste what you eat too?
This is not to say that we should change ourselves in the process. Rather; we must learn how to fit comfortably into the scheme of things. We are camouflaged cats.
